Why not use it in the pts? They could buy in bulk from the same supplier rather than two suppliers at different rates. Then Magpul could say the airsoft is built to the same standards as firearms and corner the market.
ETA: Off the shelf polys are alot stronger than you would think. Example "A", Injected at degrees, compressed at 3k with a piston diameter of 30''. I am unable to disclose the polys my customer uses Doing this would then cause the PTS to cost the same as the normal Magpul line of products and hence defeat the purpose of the purpose of making two lines of products. Also, if they bought from the same supplier, they would then have to ship it from the US to China if they continued to have it made there.
The idea of Magpul licensing the design of Magpul products to a manufacturer in China is to keep someone else from knocking off Magpul products from China. Quoted: So Magpul, has developed a secret blend of polymers not available to anyone. Readers Digest version; Magpul Inds. Built for non Real-Steel hobbyist, prop collectors and force on force training.
Ask any player in the firearms biz and they tell you they kit gets knocked off. What is it about loose lips? To further expand upon what Drake said, the primary reason why a different polymer is used is due to ITAR. While the Magpul PTS polymer is not the same as what is used for real-steel Magpul product line, it is far from cheap polymer. PTS works closely with Dupont Plastics to create a specific blend of polymer that mimics the fit, feel and look of that of the real-steel counterpart, but to work on airsoft replicas.
While the PTS polymers are of an extremely high grade, it is very important to note that it is not designed and stress tested to work with real firearms which is a major factor why PTS products should never be used with real firearms. Magpul PTS has never had to, and has never needed to do this as the PTS products are purpose built for training and simulation.
When looking to buy Magpul Industries products, make sure that the product is not in fact a PTS product, nor is it a fake clone product which will not bare the PTS engraving. See I have to disagree completely. I have been lurking on this thread seeing where it was going, and have now decided to commit. Let's put your statement in the context of another outdoor activity: Jimbo Bob just wants to spend some time with his family on the road, and do a cross country trip in the end of June, early July.
He's never been camping before, so he asks the guy at Cabela's to outfit him. After hearing what Jimbo Bob wants to do, and considering it is car camping, the outfitter suggests cheaper gear to save money on that portion of the trip. It's not like your climbing Everest. Freak snow storm happens, and in his attempt to get off the dirt road, his car slides into a ditch. They pitch the crap tent, and use the crap bags to stay warm.
Will Jimbo Bob and his family get through the night? Maybe, but maybe not. When I buy out door gear of any kind I want it to be at minimum the lowest acceptable standard for a life and dead situation.
Why anyone in their right mind would purchase something cheaper simply because they are a hobbiest not a professional blows my mind. What if you actually have to use it one day? My life is full of stories like JimBo Bob's. People coming to WY under equipped or under prepared and either killing themselves of their family.
So what you're saying is that there should be no choices in this life and the "best" should be clear cut in every aspect of life? What about the standard bushie and colt style collapsible stocks? Ive seen some of these stocks break when mortared. Im agreeing and disagreeing with you. I think its sad that people even have to question the usefulness of inferior products to save a couple dimes but at the end of the day those people are HOPEFULLY more concerned about eating than kitting out a bomb proof end of the world rifle.
You would be surprised at how many people own rifles and would never even think to grab it in the event of a zombie apocalypse. Different strokes for different folks.
If i had my way the chinese knockoff artists would be ejected into space with 20 minutes of oxygen I suspect my idea is some what more harsh.
Line them up in stacked rows and fire one round, 3 or 4 drop then repeat till all are dead! Less expensive, plus you can show them that your real parts will stand up to execution duty. I would and I wouldn't. Not much surprises me. But I have to say I would laugh if someone left an m4 behind at the house in a zombie apoc situation. Then I would ask them where they use to live, and head straight to their house to outfit someone else with me. PTS items should never be used on a real firearm.
The metal PTS components are often made of lower grade materials or absent altogether. While they are of high quality for the Airsoft market they have not been designed or tested with real firearms like the US made Magpul versions have. While PTS items may be work on a rifle, the heat and impact of a real firearm on a part made for airsoft could lead to serious injury or death. But I can still put them on my gun for photo ops right? Or for plinking at the range as a "hobbiest"? Magpul should put a warning on these products like the one I have at the bar for pregnant women that want to drink: "WARNING: It has been determined that the Magpul PTS Line is not manufactured to the same quality as an actual stress rated firearm accessory.
Your desire to look cool on the internet, or at the gun range may result in a lack of function of the firearm, injury, and possibly DEATH.
How cool do you think you'll look on a stretcher?
